~ Irish Rose Paper Weight ~

My latest little creation that I just couldn’t help but share ~ an Irish Rose crochet paper weight.

Like much of what I seem to make these days, completely impromptu! I haven’t really ever made one before, but I found a nice smooth stone whilst gardening yesterday so I thought I’d give it a go…I’m surprised at how easy they are to whip up! Again, my design is not so imaginative, but you could really have a ball dreaming up all sorts of designs for these cute little treasures!

My Scrappy Journal Pouch…

imageI love those projects that start out as one thing and end up as something totally different…a few weeks back I thought I would use up some old scrap yarn and make a granny square shoulder bag. Only problem was, the scraps I had really were scraps and only stretched to make 10 small squares…I wanted at least 20!

Never mind, I thought, so I sewed up what I had, knowing that some kind of great creation would be born regardless and, voila! What eventuated was this nifty little book pouch. I use it now to keep my journal and small sketch books in and it’s actually quite handy and cute for travelling around with too. I really like it, I think I might make up a couple more larger ones for my uni textbooks – only I may need more than scraps for that…

Who Likes Crochet….I Like Crochet!!

So, I finally did it. I created a crochet blog. Even though I know there a gazillion great crochet blogs around, I figure, what’s one more, eh? Especially when each enthusiast has their own special take on this amazingly addictive art form.
My qualifications for creating such a blog (as if one was needed!)? Simple. I like to crochet. For years I knew only how to knit, my Mother taught me when I was very small and for a long time this was enough for me. However, as I got older, I started to notice all sorts of wonderful patterns in my craft books that could only be made with this strange method called ‘crochet’. But what was crochet, I wondered. Everyone I asked had an idea on how to do it but no one really knew enough to teach me. So on I went, knitting my simple little creations for presents and such, yearning to make something just a little more interesting. Now, don’t get me wrong, knitting is a wonderful art form and requires a LOT of skill, but that didn’t change the fact that I really wanted to crochet.
A few years ago I decided enough was enough. If no one could teach me then I would teach myself! So downloaded a few ‘how to guides’ of the Internet and rest is history! After an awful lot of practice, I have now become quite efficient at crocheting and creating patterns for whatever I like, which anybody who loves this craft knows is a wonderfully liberating feeling! There is so much to discover in the world of crocheting, which is just what I’d like to explore in my little blog, here in my very own Life Of Crochet!
Enjoy 🙂
